Our Story

The Dare to Dream Foundation was founded in 2011 and registered in 2014 with the aim of creating a platform for youth engagement is social and economic development. The foundation inaugural programme is based the South African township Hammanskraal, titled “The Dreamers Programme”. The Dreamers Programme is a youth development programme which focuses on arts education and mentorship.
The success and growth of the Dreamers Programmes in part through collaboration with and support from respective youth-led or focused organisations particularly towards the programmes outreach projects led to the launch of the Breaking Down Borders Africa Initiative in 2016. The Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth Initiative, (the Initiative) was founded to be a platform that could enable African youth to collaborate towards social and skills development in their respective communities. To this end, the initiative gave birth to the Africa tour and the Africa Month Youth Summit. The Africa Tour is a youth exchange and multimedia platform. The tour has reached over ten countries across the African continent through which the initiative hosted arts and entrepreneurship workshops, dialogues, film screenings and an exchange programme. With the growth of the foundations network across Africa, the initiative launched Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth Summit (the Summit) in 2017. Through the Summit, the foundation has over 3 years reached over 500 Young Leaders from 26 African Countries who convene annually to engage and collaborate on youth affairs and policy.
